Alex Zyngier

Mr Zyngier founded Batuta Advisors in 2013 to pursue investment and advisory opportunities in the distressed and turnaround sectors. Mr. Zyngier has over 20 years of investment, strategy, and operating experience. He currently serves on the boards of directors of Atari SA, AudioEye Inc. (AEYE), GT Advanced Technologies Inc., Torchlight Energy Resources Inc. (TRCH) and First Contact Entertainment.

He was previously Chairman of the Board of Vertis Inc., a director of Island One LLC and Executive Chairman of DTV America Corporation. Mr. Zyngier has worked as a Po​​rtfolio Manager, investing in public and private opportunities, at Alden Global Capital, Goldman Sachs & Co., Deutsche Bank Co. and as a sell-side distressed and event-driven analyst at CRT Capital Group. He was also a strategy consultant at McKinsey & Company. Prior to that, he was a technical brand manager at Procter & Gamble, focused on Latin America Beauty Care Products. ​

Mr. Zyngier holds an MBA in Finance and Accounting from the University of Chicago and BSc. in Chemical Engineering from UNICAMP, Brazil.

J. Eduardo Gonzalez

Mr. Gonzalez joined Batuta Advisors in 2016 as a Managing Director. Mr. Gonzalez has over two decades of experience and a successful track record having served as Chairman, Board Member, CEO, CFO and Consultant of multi-national, multi-billion dollar publicly listed corporations, as well as multimillion dollar private startup ventures throughout a range of industries including: Biotech, renewable Energy, Agribusiness, Mining, and others. From 2011 to early 2016 he was Chairman and Board Member of Algenol LLC. and from 2007-2015 he held several senior positions at BioFields S.A.P.I. de C.V., a company focused on large-scale environmentally sustainable enterprises in Mexico, most recently as its CEO and Director. Prior to BioFields, Mr. Gonzalez served as a Director and VP, Finance, and CFO of Southern Copper Corporation (NYSE: SCCO). He was the President and CFO of Grupo Mexico’s Mining Division (Americas Mining Corporation) from 2004 to 2005 and its CFO from 1999 to March 2003. ​

Mr. Gonzalez holds an MBA in Finance and Accounting from the University of Chicago, was an Associate Graduate Student in Political Philosophy at Oxford University and earned dual MA’s in Economics and Political Science from the University of Arizona. ​

Alex Mazier

Mr. Mazier joined Batuta Advisors in 2017 as a Managing Director.  Mr. Mazier has over 15 years of experience successfully investing in distressed, high yield and special situations.  Mr. Mazier has participated in some of the largest bankruptcies including LyondellBasell Industries, Mirant Corporation, Calpine Corporation and TXU Energy.

Prior to joining Batuta, he was a partner and portfolio manager at Sandell Asset Management managing the credit opportunities portfolio and investing in distressed, high yield and special situations.

While at Sandell, Mr. Mazier served on various boards of private companies including Brick Power and Navasota Holdings.  He was also part of the steering committee in TPC Group, US Power Generating and Southaven Power.  Prior to Sandell he was an analyst at at Lehman Brothers, Bank of America and Salomon Smith Barney.

Mr Mazier holds an MBA in Finance from New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business and a BS in Economics from Boston College.


Eric Mark

Mr. Mark is a consultant to Batuta Advisors.

He was a senior distressed analyst at BTG Pactual, a Brazilian investment bank, co-managing a $2 billion portfolio of distressed, high yield and special situation equities. He led official and ad hoc restructuring committees and advised BTG investment bankers on the restructuring of OGX, SMU and Nextel International. Prior to joining BTG, Mr. Mark held senior positions at Moore Capital Management, Avenue Capital in London, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and the US Department of State. Mr. Mark currently serves on the board of directors of Madalena Energy Inc. (MVN:TSXV)​.

Mr. Mark holds and MBA in Finance and Accounting from the University of Chicago and an MA in Economics and a BA in Economics and French Literature from Indiana University.
